Beirut: Information Minister, Paul Morcos, on Thursday mourned journalist Amal Khalil, saying her martyrdom "united the Lebanese around the cause of truth and the steadfast South," and highlighted the risks journalists face to report from the field.

According to National Nws Aency - Lebanon, Morcos revealed ongoing contacts with UNESCO, the UN Human Rights Council, and international partners to follow up on Lebanon's protest memorandum and mobilize support. The aim is to ensure that the international community is aware of the challenges and dangers faced by journalists like Khalil, who are committed to conveying truth from conflict zones.

Moreover, the Minister said efforts are underway to revive a UNIFIL notification mechanism for journalists, while stressing it is not a guarantee of safety. He emphasized, "We will not accept that our journalists remain under fire," highlighting the urgent need for protective measures for journalists operating in volatile regions. The initiative reflects Lebanon's commitment to safeguarding journalists and promoting press freedom amid growing international concern.
