Beirut:The Lebanese Ministry of Culture and the U.S. Embassy in Beirut marked the successful completion of preservation and restoration efforts at the Mussaylha Archaeological Site. This four-year project was funded by a $210,000 grant from the U.S. Ambassadors Fund for Cultural Preservation (AFCP) and aimed to restore the Mussaylha Fort, maintain its architectural integrity, improve access roads, and support local heritage and traditions. Additionally, the project revitalized the historic mill, established a natural water reservoir, and offered workshops for local farmers on sustainable farming practices. According to National news agency - Lebanon, Minister of Culture Dr. Ghassan Salamé emphasized the importance of preserving cultural heritage as a means of protecting a place's memory and identity while fostering future opportunities. He expressed gratitude to the U.S. Ambassadors Fund for Cultural Preservation, the Directorate General of Antiquities, Jouzour Loubnan, the Municipality of Hamat, and the local community for their collaborative efforts.

U.S. Ambassador Michel Issa highlighted the Mussaylha project's reflection of strong U.S.-Lebanon relations and America's commitment to Lebanon's sovereignty and cultural heritage. He announced a new investment of $436,827 by the U.S. Government to preserve a Roman-era archaeological site in Chim and revive its olive oil tradition, in partnership with the Ministry of Culture and Beit el Baraka.

The AFCP is a significant cultural initiative by the U.S. Government, supporting over 25 projects in Lebanon and more than 1,250 worldwide since its inception in 2001. These projects aim to preserve cultural heritage and promote economic opportunities, often involving local experts and traditional methods.
