Ain el-Tineh:House Speaker Nabih Berri met with US Congressmen Darin LaHood and Josh Gottheimer, alongside US Embassy Charg© d'Affaires Keith Hanigan and Berri's media advisor Ali Hamdan, at the Second Presidency headquarters. Discussions focused on Lebanon's regional situation and recent field developments amid ongoing Israeli attacks, particularly in southern Lebanon.
According to National news agency - Lebanon, Speaker Berri emphasized that Israel's non-compliance with agreements to end its war on Lebanon remains a significant barrier. He called on the U.S. administration and President Donald Trump to apply pressure on Israel to halt its aggression, warning that continued conflict would undermine efforts to strengthen Lebanese state institutions.
Berri acknowledged the international support for the Lebanese Army, noting the critical need to renew the UNIFIL mandate to prevent past mistakes. He also met with Deputy Prime Minister Dr. Tarek Mitri, who provided a report on crimes by Israeli forces in southern Lebanon. Berri asserted Lebanon's sovereign right to hold Israel accountable for its actions.
Separately, Berri met with Major Charlie Collins, the UK's Deputy Chief of Defence Staff, and a military delegation. They discussed military cooperation and assistance programs for the Lebanese Army. Berri reiterated the importance of renewing UNIFIL's mandate under UN Security Council Resolution 1701 and stressed maintaining UN oversight for forces assisting Lebanon post-Israeli withdrawal.
