Beirut: Lebanon’s National Commission for Lebanese Women, chaired by First Lady Nehmat Aoun, convened the inaugural meeting of the national steering committee to oversee the implementation of the country’s second action plan under UN Security Council Resolution 1325, focusing on women, peace, and security.

According to National News Agency – Lebanon, the committee is comprised of senior officials from various ministries, public administrations, and military and security institutions. This plan was formulated through consultations with diverse government bodies, civil society, and international organizations, in collaboration with UN Women and supported by Finland’s Foreign Ministry.

First Lady Aoun emphasized that this meeting signifies the shift from planning to the implementation phase and urged for the integration of the plan’s objectives into public policies, sectoral programs, and the routine operations of state institutions. She highlighted the critical role of women’s participation in decision-making, conflict prevention, crisis response, peacebuilding, and reconstruction for achieving stability and inclusive development.

The committee also reviewed the plan’s priorities and implementation strategies before finalizing its annual work program.
