Parliamentary Delegation Tours Beirut Port to Review Silos and Scanner Operations

Beirut: A parliamentary delegation led by Economy Committee chairman MP Farid Boustany on Wednesday toured Beirut Port alongside Economy Minister Amer Bisat, Public Works Committee chairman MP Sagih Atieh, customs officials, and MPs to inspect the grain silos and container scanners.

According to National News Agency - Lebanon, Boustany described the port as vital to Lebanon's economy, emphasizing the importance of preserving the silos as a national memorial while progressing with redevelopment plans. Economy Minister Amer Bisat mentioned that studies are underway for new grain silos funded by a Kuwaiti grant, with tenders expected to be announced before the end of the year.

Officials highlighted the activation of scanner inspections for all containers as a significant step to enhance customs oversight, combat smuggling, and boost state revenues. They also called for broader administrative and technical reforms at the port to further improve its operations.
