Beirut: Prime Minister Judge Dr. Nawaf Salam, said in an interview with the Washington Post: "We urge the Trump administration to pressure Israel to scale back its demands and end its invasion of Lebanon."
According to National Nws Aency - Lebanon, Premier Salam affirmed that "Lebanon cannot sign any agreement that does not include a full withdrawal of Israeli forces," adding, "We cannot live with a so-called buffer zone where Lebanese displaced people are not allowed to return to their towns and villages."
Salam also pointed out that the Lebanese government "has taken bold decisions and made progress in confiscating weapons and banning military operations by Hezbollah," considering that "the state's monopoly over weapons is in Lebanon's national interest, regardless of Israel's demands,'' adding "a state cannot have two armies."
Salam also appealed to Washington and Paris to help expand and strengthen the Lebanese army, which he said is facing financial difficulties in terms of equipment and training.
The PM said, "Disarmament is a process that cannot happen overnight, but the most important thing is that we have demonstrated seriousness in this regard."
