Pope Leo XIV Pays Tribute to Saint Charbel in Annaya

Annaya: His Holiness Pope Leo XIV made an official statement from the Monastery of Saint Charbel, highlighting the enduring legacy of Saint Charbel. In his address, Pope Leo XIV expressed gratitude to the Superior General for the warm reception and acknowledged the monastery’s serene environment as a reflection of Saint Charbel’s austere lifestyle.

According to National News Agency – Lebanon, Pope Leo XIV emphasized the teachings and legacy of Saint Charbel, who, despite living a hidden and silent life, became renowned for his spiritual influence. The Pope articulated that Saint Charbel serves as a model for those living without God, teaching them to pray, and for those surrounded by noise, showing them the value of silence. The saint’s life is a testament to modesty and poverty, countering the prevalent cultural norms.

Pope Leo XIV underscored Saint Charbel’s role in reminding bishops and ordained ministers of their evangelical responsibilities. He highlighted the saint’s steadfastness and humility as a message for all Christians. The Pope also noted Saint Charbel’s continuous intercession for the faithful, which has drawn thousands of pilgrims to Annaya each month for prayer and spiritual renewal.

In his appeal, the Pope entrusted Saint Charbel with the needs of the Church, Lebanon, and the world, calling for communion, unity, and peace. He particularly implored for peace in Lebanon and the Levant, stressing that true peace requires a conversion of hearts. As a symbol of hope and faith, Pope Leo XIV presented a lamp to the monastery, entrusting Lebanon and its people to Saint Charbel’s protection.
