President Aoun Emphasizes Role of Lebanese Diaspora in National Decision-Making

Beirut: President of the Republic, Joseph Aoun, on Wednesday reinforced the significant influence of the Lebanese diaspora in supporting their homeland during a meeting with a delegation from the Lebanese-American Renaissance Partnership (LARP). He emphasized the natural right of the diaspora to be involved in national decision-making processes.

According to National News Agency – Lebanon, President Aoun highlighted Lebanon’s re-emergence on the global stage, portraying an image of safety abroad, coupled with positive economic indicators. He noted the success experienced across various sectors during the past summer.

In a series of meetings addressing political, spiritual, and social issues, President Aoun met with the Head of the Chaldean Community in Lebanon, Archbishop Michel Kassarji, and Monsignor Raphael Traboulsi. Discussions focused on the Chaldean community’s role in Lebanese society, with Archbishop Kassarji inviting President Aoun to a celebration marking the 150th anniversary of the Chaldean presence in Lebanon and the 1700th anniversary of the Council of Nicaea.

Further discussions with Archbishop Kassarji touched on the representation of minority sects in Lebanon’s constitutional parliamentary and governmental institutions. Later, President Aoun met with former Minister Professor Ibrahim Najjar to discuss Lebanon’s general situation amid recent developments. Najjar invited the President to a symposium on “Family Material Rights in Lebanese Law.”

President Aoun also met with Army Chief of Staff Major General Hassan Odeh, who presented his new book. President Aoun congratulated Major General Odeh, acknowledging the book’s value to Lebanese and Arab libraries. Additionally, the President welcomed Father Tony Bou Assaf, founder and president of the Keserwan Cultural Gathering, among other visitors at Baabda Palace.
