Beirut: President of the Republic, General Joseph Aoun, on Tuesday received an invitation from Cypriot President Nikos Christodoulides to attend the opening ceremony of Cyprus’s assumption of the Council of the European Union presidency. The event is scheduled for January 7, 2026, at the Cyprus Theatre in Nicosia. The invitation was conveyed by Cypriot Ambassador to Lebanon, Maria Hadjitheodosiou, during a meeting at Baabda Palace, and it included an invitation for First Lady, Mrs. Nehmat Aoun, as well.
According to National News Agency – Lebanon, the Cypriot President emphasized that Cyprus’s presidency of the Council of the European Union, which begins on January 1, 2026, represents a national commitment and a strategic opportunity. This event is significant as it occurs once every fourteen years and aims to promote international cooperation and underscore the region’s role as an essential partner for the European Union.
