Cairo: Minister of Foreign Affairs and Emigrants Youssef Rajji participated in the 164th regular session of the Council of the League of Arab States in Cairo. During the session, Rajji presented Lebanon’s stance on several pressing issues, emphasizing the country’s decision to manage arms control independently without external interference.
According to National News Agency – Lebanon, Rajji highlighted the Lebanese government’s move to regulate weapons outside the framework of legitimacy and start the process of handing over Palestinian weapons to Lebanese authorities. This initiative is part of a broader effort to extend state authority across all Lebanese territory, reinforcing Lebanon’s commitment to sovereignty while seeking support from Arab nations.
Rajji also addressed Lebanon’s reform efforts and expressed hope for increased Arab investment and involvement in Lebanon’s economy, promoting Arab economic integration. He expressed gratitude for the continued support and solidarity from Lebanon’s Arab neighbors.
On regional security, Rajji condemned Israel’s ongoing violations of UN Security Council Resolution 1701 and urged the international community to press Israel to cease its attacks and withdraw from occupied Lebanese territories. He called on Arab nations to aid the Lebanese Army in enforcing the government’s arms control policy.
Regarding Syria, Rajji indicated Lebanon’s willingness to work with Syria on resolving longstanding issues, such as border demarcation and the situation of displaced Syrians and missing Lebanese persons.
On the Palestinian issue, Rajji reaffirmed Lebanon’s support for the establishment of an independent Palestinian state and the right for Palestinian refugees to return, while opposing their resettlement in Lebanon. He warned against attempts to undermine the Palestinian cause, stating that such efforts would destabilize the region.
The Arab League Council, in its concluding statement, expressed solidarity with Lebanon, endorsing its arms control decision and rejecting foreign interference. The council also committed to supporting Lebanon’s economic challenges, condemned Israeli actions, and advocated for the full implementation of international resolutions concerning Lebanese sovereignty.
