Beirut: Minister of Public Works and Transport H.E. Fayez Rasamny inaugurated the newly renovated VIP Lounge at Beirut Rafic Hariri International Airport, following its complete rehabilitation, which was financed and implemented by Middle East Airlines (MEA).
According to National news agency - Lebanon, the official ceremony was attended by prominent figures including H.E. Minister of National Defense Major General Michel Menassa, H.E. Minister of Interior and Municipalities Brigadier General Ahmad Al-Hajjar, and H.E. Minister of Tourism Laura El Khazen. Other attendees included Former Minister Mohammad Choucair and Chairman and Director General of Middle East Airlines Mohammad Al-Hout, among others.
The event began with the Lebanese National Anthem, followed by welcoming remarks from Danielle Atrash. Minister Rasamny then unveiled the commemorative plaque and cut the ribbon, officially opening the refurbished lounge.
Minister Rasamny described the inauguration as a significant step in the Ministry's ongoing plan to modernize the airport. Nearly two months after the airport's renovated Departure Hall opened, the VIP Lounge inauguration marks another milestone in the comprehensive development plan. Rasamny emphasized that enhancing passenger safety and security has been his top priority since taking office.
The Minister stated that the airport is Lebanon's first point of contact with the world and should reflect the country's image, culture, and history. The modernization plan's results are already visible, he noted.
The newly renovated VIP Lounge spans approximately 1,100 square metres, can accommodate around 83 guests, and features a fully equipped kitchen. The modernization programme will continue with upgrades to restrooms, security screening, runway rehabilitation, and infrastructure investments. Rasamny announced plans to inaugurate a Fast Track service within the next three months to ease congestion.
Mohammad Al-Hout, Chairman and Director General of Middle East Airlines, praised the project's completion and Minister Rasamny's hands-on approach. Al-Hout expressed MEA's readiness to participate in the airport expansion, supported by Banque du Liban Governor Karim Souaid and Prime Minister Dr. Nawaf Salam.
Minister of Interior Ahmad Al-Hajjar highlighted the airport's role as Lebanon's gateway to the world and emphasized the importance of security in the country's recovery. He also welcomed international decisions enhancing Lebanon's tourism and economic activity.
The project marks the first comprehensive rehabilitation of the VIP Lounge since the airport opened in 1998. It transformed the lounge into three spacious reception halls and increased check-in counters, enhancing operational efficiency and service quality.
