Salam Condemns Political Assassinations on Gemayel’s Anniversary

Beirut: Prime Minister Nawaf Salam stated that political differences, regardless of their intensity or depth, can never justify political assassination. In an issued statement marking the anniversary of the assassination of President-elect, Martyr Bashir Gemayel, Salam emphasized that Lebanese society must reject political assassinations, whether carried out through bombs and explosives or silenced weapons.

According to National news agency - Lebanon, Salam remarked, "History has taught us that assassination may end a life, but it has never succeeded in resolving a dispute." He further stressed that moving beyond Lebanon's violent past requires neither denial nor forgetting, but rather "frankness and reconciliation." Salam urged reliance on institutions and democracy to manage political differences, highlighting that these are essential for turning the page on Lebanon's history of violence.
