Sheikh Al-Khatib Appeals to Pope Leo for Global Support on Lebanon’s Plight

Beirut: The Vice President of the Supreme Islamic Shiite Council, Sheikh Ali al-Khatib, extended a welcome to Pope Leo XIV during an ecumenical meeting at Martyrs’ Square. In his address, Sheikh al-Khatib acknowledged the Pope’s visit to Lebanon, expressing gratitude on behalf of the Supreme Islamic Shiite Council and the Shiite community. He emphasized the significance of the Pope’s presence during the challenging times Lebanon is facing.

According to National News Agency – Lebanon, Sheikh al-Khatib highlighted the importance of the Holy See’s longstanding view of Lebanon as a message. He expressed hope that the Pope’s visit would aid in fostering Lebanon’s fragile national unity, which is under strain due to ongoing conflicts. Sheikh al-Khatib reiterated that the Lebanese are not inclined towards violence and appealed for global assistance to address the country’s pressing issues.
