Derian Emphasizes Lebanon’s Role in Promoting Global Peace During Pope’s Visit

Beirut: In his delivered word at the Christian-Islamic dialogue meeting at Martyr’s Square this afternoon, the Grand Mufti of the Lebanese Republic, Sheikh Abdul-Latif Derian, considered that “Lebanon is the land of the message, the bearer of its banner, and entrusted with spreading security and peace in the world.”

According to National News Agency – Lebanon, Derian expressed his pleasure in welcoming Pope Leo XIV to Lebanon, highlighting the country’s commitment to coexistence and religious pluralism. He praised Lebanon as an enrichment for humanity and emphasized that citizenship is the foundation for equal rights and duties, without discrimination.

Derian further stated that Lebanon consistently upholds its national principles, respects religious freedoms, and values human rights as the foundation for coexistence in its diverse society. He noted that Lebanon’s constitution protects the rights of religious communities to practice their laws without interference in private matters.

Welcoming Pope Leo XIV, Derian expressed hope for the Pope’s success in leading the Christian community for the good of humanity. He referenced the Document on Human Fraternity as a model for promoting global peace and understanding, and underscored Lebanon’s commitment to carrying the torch of this message to ensure security and peace worldwide.
