Beirut: Siren Associates today announced the beta launch of Monitor Lebanon, a real-time situational awareness platform designed to help individuals and organisations understand and navigate Lebanon's rapidly evolving security environment. The early release invites users to explore the platform and provide feedback as development continues.
According to National News Agency - Lebanon, Lebanon's information landscape is fragmented across traditional media, social networks, local reporting, and messaging platforms. During periods of heightened tension or conflict, this makes it difficult for journalists, humanitarian actors, businesses, and residents to build a clear picture of events as they unfold.
Monitor Lebanon addresses this challenge by aggregating and structuring open-source information into a single, accessible dashboard. The platform draws on live reporting from news agencies, verified social media accounts, Telegram channels, conflict monitoring initiatives, and traffic data systems to provide users with a clearer view of emerging developments.
At the centre of the platform is an interactive incident map, which visualises reported security events and key operational information. The map includes layers such as reported incidents, affected areas, road conditions, hospital locations, and other indicators that help users understand how developments may affect movement and access.
The platform operates in real time, with updates appearing as information is published by monitored sources. Users can receive notifications when key announcements are made, including government statements and security warnings such as strike alerts.
Monitor Lebanon combines automated monitoring with ongoing human oversight. A monitoring team continuously reviews the platform-particularly high-risk alerts such as evacuation notices-to help ensure that critical information is accurately represented.
Sources are assigned internal credibility scores based on the reliability of the publisher. However, as the platform aggregates open-source reporting in real time, users should always refer to official sources when making important decisions.
Monitor Lebanon is intended for a wide range of users who require timely insight into events on the ground. This includes journalists reporting from Lebanon, humanitarian organisations coordinating operations, diplomatic missions, businesses with local staff and assets, and residents seeking a clearer understanding of evolving risks.
"We initially built this tool to give our colleagues on the ground a clearer view of what's going on," said Kate Millar, an OSINT consultant leading the development of Monitor Lebanon. "Already, team members displaced by the ongoing hostilities have been using it to check for reported strikes near their homes and to track evacuation orders. But many more people are navigating the same uncertainty, so we want to make this tool available to anyone who may benefit from clearer, real-time information."
