Sidon: The General Directorate of State Security on Thursday announced that its Regional South Directorate has arrested the treasurer of Sidon Municipality in connection with the disappearance of public funds estimated at around one billion Lebanese pounds.

According to National News Agency - Lebanon, the arrest was carried out upon instructions from the Financial Public Prosecutor's Office, as part of ongoing efforts to combat corruption and protect public funds.

The head of the municipality's administrative and financial department, along with seven other municipal employees and members, were left under investigation.

The investigation report has been completed and referred to the competent judicial authority in accordance with its directives.
