Beirut: Loyalty to the Resistance bloc member, MP Ali Ammar, has spoken out against recent remarks made by the Israeli military chief of staff from Beaufort Castle. Ammar contends that following the Lebanese authorities' signing of a framework agreement with Israel, Israeli officials have used this as a claim of "legitimacy" to maintain a presence in southern Lebanon. He highlighted ongoing violations of the ceasefire, including attacks on civilians, house demolitions, and the use of white phosphorus to burn fields, criticizing what he perceives as official silence on these issues.
According to National News Agency - Lebanon, MP Ammar specifically condemned the Israeli military chief's "aggressive" statements, which called upon the Lebanese army to confront Hezbollah and accomplish what the Israeli army "failed to achieve" during its previous conflicts. Ammar asserted that these remarks represent a breach of Lebanese sovereignty and an unwarranted interference in Lebanon's internal affairs. He emphasized the necessity of a strong official response that defends the national army's role in safeguarding the country and rejects any attempts to align Lebanese military efforts with Israeli security interests.
Ammar also criticized comments made by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich, accusing them of politically exposing Lebanese authorities by suggesting that the framework agreement justifies Israel's continued presence in the region known as the "yellow line." He argued that efforts by Lebanese authorities to justify the agreement or interpret it contradictory to its content have been ineffective from the outset.
Concluding his remarks, MP Ammar urged Lebanese authorities to provide a clear and decisive response, urging them to assume their national responsibilities by reversing what he described as "wrong decisions" and correcting policies that have undermined Lebanon's strength and sovereignty.
