Berri Discusses Regional Developments with ATFL Delegation and Meets Canadian Minister and UNESCO Director

Beirut: House Speaker Nabih Berri met with a delegation from the American Task Force for Lebanon (ATFL) at the second presidency headquarters in Ain El-Tineh. The delegation was led by Ambassador Edward Gabriel and discussions centered on the general situation and the latest political and field developments amid ongoing attacks by Israel in southern Lebanon.

According to National news agency - Lebanon, Speaker Berri expressed that the situation in the south of Lebanon is intolerable, likening it to the events occurring in Gaza in terms of crimes against civilians and the destruction of property and heritage. He emphasized the need for U.S. intervention, stating that only the United States and President Donald Trump could influence Israel to cease its military actions and withdraw to the internationally recognized borders. Berri assured that such steps would lead to the deployment of the Lebanese Army south of the Litani River, ensuring security and control over weapons in the area.

Ambassador Gabriel remarked on the fruitful meeting with Speaker Berri, noting discussions on reforms and the security situation in Lebanon, especially concerning direct negotiations and the framework agreement.

In a separate meeting, Berri received Canadian Minister of State for International Development, Randeep Sarai, and his delegation, including Canadian Ambassador to Lebanon Gregory Galligan. This meeting focused on regional developments, Israel's continued attacks, and Lebanon's reconstruction efforts, as well as strengthening bilateral relations between Lebanon and Canada.

Additionally, Speaker Berri met with UNESCO Director-General Khaled El-Enany, Culture Minister Ghassan Salameh, and Lebanon's Permanent Delegate to UNESCO, Ambassador Hind Darwish. Their discussions highlighted UNESCO's programs in Lebanon and its crucial role in safeguarding heritage and cultural sites under threat from Israeli actions.
