Hamas Delegation Engages in Cairo Talks on Gaza Ceasefire Implementation

Beirut: A delegation from Hamas is set to engage in discussions with Egyptian officials and mediators in Cairo concerning the implementation of the Gaza ceasefire agreement, the group announced on Tuesday. The primary focus of the agenda is to address the escalating Israeli violations in the Gaza Strip and the daily incidents of killing and assassinations, according to Taher al-Nunu, political adviser to the head of Hamas.

According to National News Agency - Lebanon, Hamas is also seeking assurances from Israel to permit the entry of essential supplies into Gaza. These supplies include materials necessary for repairing hospitals, bakeries, and infrastructure, as well as the implementation of remaining terms of the Sharm el-Sheikh agreement. The discussions in Cairo will further examine a roadmap prepared by Nikolay Mladenov, the Board of Peace high representative for Gaza, in cooperation with mediators for the second phase of the agreement.

The roadmap outlined by Al-Nunu includes the entry of an administrative committee and international protection forces, with an ultimate goal of achieving a full Israeli withdrawal from all areas of the Gaza Strip. Hamas emphasizes its commitment to reaching an agreement that alleviates the suffering of its people, halts the occupation's crimes, and makes strides toward restoring the political rights of Palestinians, including the establishment of an independent state of Palestine.
