Beirut: The Lebanese Association for the Protection of Archaeology and Heritage (ALCAP) has issued a call for "immediate action by the Minister of Culture with all embassies and influential countries." This plea follows recent incidents in southern Lebanon and the western Bekaa that, according to ALCAP, have "crossed red lines regarding national heritage, in blatant disregard of international conventions."
According to National News Agency - Lebanon, the association is urging the government to "file an urgent complaint before the UN Security Council and the International Criminal Court." ALCAP emphasized that attacks on archaeological sites "constitute a war crime that cannot be ignored."
The association highlighted that Lebanon's archaeological sites, some of which are World Heritage listed, are crucial to the nation's identity and do not belong to any specific party or sect. ALCAP stressed that the destruction of these sites results in an irreplaceable loss, effectively erasing history and collective memory.
