Beirut: The Lebanese Army Command – Directorate of Guidance has announced the closure of several illegal border crossings in a bid to curb smuggling activities. The strategic move focuses on the regions of Al-Qasr – Hermel and Mashari’ Al-Qaa – Baalbek, which have been identified as key areas for infiltration and smuggling.
According to National News Agency – Lebanon, the army unit has specifically targeted and shut down the illegal crossings at Al-Matlaba in Al-Qasr – Hermel, along with Al-Fatha, Al-Maarawiya, and Sheheit Al-Hajeri in Mashari’ Al-Qaa – Baalbek. This decision is part of broader efforts by the army to monitor and secure the national borders, especially in light of current challenges faced by the country.
The closure of these crossings is expected to significantly impact smuggling operations, which have been a persistent issue in these regions. The army’s proactive approach aims to safeguard the country’s borders and maintain security and stability.
