Beirut: Information Minister Paul Morcos said ongoing U.S., Arab, and international support for Lebanese efforts has created an important opportunity that Lebanon must not miss. In an interview with ABC News, Morcos said Lebanon's demands go beyond a simple ceasefire and include securing a lasting truce, Israeli withdrawal, the release of prisoners, and resolving outstanding border disputes, positions previously outlined by President Joseph Aoun. According to National News Agency - Lebanon, Morcos stressed Lebanon's welcome of the ceasefire while insisting the country should remain outside wider regional negotiations. He emphasized that Beirut seeks a dedicated negotiation track backed by the United States rather than being tied to broader regional talks. The minister also welcomed U.S. President Donald Trump's announcement of a ceasefire in Lebanon and efforts to halt Israeli attacks. He noted that Trump and President Aoun held a 30-minute phone call as part of intense diplomatic efforts led by Aoun to con solidate calm and rally international backing. Highlighting the human cost of the conflict, Morcos said Lebanon has recorded 2,294 dead, 7,544 wounded, and more than 1.5 million displaced, adding that the country is looking toward stability while safeguarding its national interests.
