Mahfoud Warns of Threats if Lebanon Fails to Act Post Pope’s Visit

Maarab: Lebanese Forces Party leader Samir Geagea received in Maarab today the head of the Change Movement, Elie Mahfoud, in the presence of the party’s media and communications department head, Charles Jabbour.

According to National News Agency – Lebanon, Mahfoud remarked after the meeting that his visit to Geagea coincided with the visit of His Holiness the Pope, describing it as a significant event in Lebanon’s history. Mahfoud emphasized that the Pope’s visit brings numerous changes, particularly in restoring the state’s authority and sovereignty over Lebanese territory.

Mahfoud cautioned that Lebanon could face various threats if the state fails to seize the opportunities presented by the Pope’s visit. He warned that the country might encounter significant problems leading to potential disasters if the government does not act appropriately to extend state authority.

Addressing the role of Lebanese institutions, Mahfoud highlighted the need for the state to demonstrate its presence amidst a crisis of confidence between citizens and authorities. He stressed the importance of a serious and responsible approach by the state to reclaim authority over all Lebanese territory, rather than a mere theatrical performance.

Mahfoud expressed respect for the Lebanese Army and called for the application of its efforts across the entire 10,452 square kilometers of Lebanon, not just specific areas. He urged the state to demonstrate courage and responsibility in this endeavor.

Finally, Mahfoud assured that restoring state authority and enforcing the law will not lead to civil conflict under any circumstances.
