Mexico Celebrates Independence Day with Festivities in Byblos

Byblos: The Embassy of Mexico in Lebanon marked the 216th anniversary of Mexico's Independence at the historic port of Byblos. The celebration brought together representatives of the Lebanese State, members of the diplomatic and military corps, the Mexican community, and friends of Mexico.

According to National News Agency - Lebanon, the event was attended by notable figures including Minister Paul Morkos, who represented the President of the Lebanese Republic, Joseph Aoun, and Prime Minister Nawaf Salam. Other dignitaries included Member of Parliament Fadi Alameh, representing Speaker of Parliament Nabih Berri; Ambassador Roula Noureddine, representing the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Emigrants; Ambassador Aline Younes, representing the Director General of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs; and General Ahmad Hamdan, Head of Security for Embassies and Public Administration.

Francisco Ernesto Romero Bock, the Ambassador of Mexico to Lebanon, commenced the celebration with speeches emphasizing the strong human and emotional connections that bind Mexico and Lebanon. He highlighted that these ties extend beyond diplomatic relations into culture, gastronomy, education, and business, significantly enriched by the Lebanese community and its descendants in Mexico.

The event featured the traditional "El Grito" ceremony, led by the Mexican Ambassador, symbolizing the commencement of Mexico's independence movement in 1810. The celebration included performances by the "Alma Mexicana" dance group and the "Cuband" mariachi ensemble, which brought the essence of Mexican culture to Byblos. Attendees also enjoyed traditional Mexican cuisine and beverages.

The event underscored the historic and human connections between Mexico and Lebanon, offering an opportunity to showcase vibrant expressions of Mexican culture.
