Kleyat: The Ministry of Public Works and Transport has commenced the initial steps to rehabilitate the infrastructure and facilities of Kleyat - President Ren© Moawad Airport. This marks a shift from planning and preparation to actual implementation on-site.

According to National news agency - Lebanon, the ministry has announced a tender via the Public Procurement Authority platform for the rehabilitation and maintenance of the airport's road, entrance, and grounds. The opening of bids is scheduled for August 27, 2026. These works are crucial for ensuring the readiness of the infrastructure surrounding the airport and its operational facilities.

This initiative is part of a comprehensive plan by the Ministry of Public Works and Transport to reintegrate Kleyat Airport into Lebanon's air transport network. The plan involves multiple phases of work, alongside fulfilling technical, operational, security, and administrative requirements in line with civil aviation standards.

The ministry emphasized that reactivating Kleyat Airport is a national and strategic project. Beyond its operational scope, the airport can significantly contribute to Lebanon's air transport system, bolster the civil aviation sector, and provide supplemental infrastructure to support the Beirut-Rafic Hariri International Airport, thereby enhancing the resilience of the national air transport sector.

Additionally, the airport's reactivation is expected to boost economic activity in Akkar Governorate, northern Lebanon, and surrounding areas. It aims to create new investment and employment opportunities, revitalizing sectors related to transport, tourism, services, and trade, and improving connectivity with Lebanon's key economic facilities.

The Ministry of Public Works and Transport outlined its strategy to transition from plans and studies to gradual implementation, prioritizing essential infrastructure before completing all necessary equipment, facilities, and services for safe and sustainable airport operations.

The ministry confirmed that the tender launch is among the initial implementation steps for the airport's rehabilitation. Work will continue in coordination with official, security, and technical authorities to complete the remaining phases, ultimately aiming to reactivate the airport and unlock its potential within a comprehensive national vision for Lebanon's air transport sector development.
