MP Abu Faour Challenges Proposed Budget Cut for Public Works Ministry

Beirut:Democratic Gathering bloc MP Wael Abu Faour has raised concerns over a proposed reduction in the budget for the Ministry of Public Works and Transport, questioning the rationale behind the decision given the ministry's extensive work throughout Lebanon.

According to National news agency - Lebanon, Abu Faour expressed his perplexity in a statement, noting that despite the challenging financial conditions in the country, it was surprising that the Ministry of Public Works and Transport would face budget cuts while other ministries remain unaffected. He clarified that his questioning was not influenced by any partisanship towards Minister Fayez Rasamny.

Abu Faour further questioned whether the cut was intended to penalize productive ministries and ministers that achieve results. He suggested that instead of reducing the ministry's budget, the government should focus on finding new revenue sources. This could include taking stronger action against tax and customs evasion and ensuring the collection of outstanding taxes from violators, without imposing additional taxes on citizens.
