Beirut: Prime Minister Nawaf Salam on Wednesday convened several important meetings at the Grand Serail, focusing on diplomatic relations and infrastructure development. These included talks with UN Special Coordinator for Lebanon, a Belarusian delegation, and officials from Human Rights Watch.
According to National News Agency – Lebanon, the day began with a discussion between Prime Minister Salam and UN Special Coordinator for Lebanon Jeanine Hennis-Plasschaert. The conversation revolved around recent political developments and the ongoing situation in southern Lebanon amid Israeli actions.
Subsequently, Prime Minister Salam welcomed a Belarusian delegation led by Deputy Prime Minister Viktor Karankevich and Deputy Speaker of Parliament Vadim Ipatov, alongside Ambassador Yuri Sluka and Honorary Consul Elie Sarkis. Karankevich expressed Belarus’s commitment to strengthening bilateral relationships, emphasizing collaborations in agriculture, food industries, education, medicine, and emergency support. He also announced the donation of ambulances to Lebanon’s Health Ministry and plans to enhance educational exchanges between the two nations.
In another significant meeting, Salam engaged with Lama Fakih, acting deputy executive director of Human Rights Watch, and MENA researcher Ramzi Kaiss. They called for justice regarding war crimes and stressed the importance of judicial independence and accountability, particularly in relation to the Beirut port blast case.
The day’s agenda also included discussions on airport development. Salam met with representatives from Emirati airport operators and Lebanese firms to deliberate on the development of Qlayaat Airport and improvements in security systems at Beirut Airport.
Prime Minister Salam concluded his series of meetings with a session with Constitutional Council President Judge Tanous Mechleb, wrapping up a day dedicated to both diplomatic initiatives and infrastructure progress.
