Salam: State Has Regained Decision on War and Peace

Beirut: Prime Minister Nawaf Salam affirmed that “the state has regained the decision on war and peace” in the country, adding that “whoever warns and frightens of civil war must first accord attention to withdrawing the weapon of sedition, for this is seditious talk.”

According to National News Agency – Lebanon, Salam stated to “Asharq Al-Awsat” newspaper that United States envoy Tom Barrack presented a paper which was distributed to all Cabinet members, and it has since become public. He noted that the paper was Barrack’s amended version, revised with Lebanese suggestions, which he referred to as the Lebanese version. The Cabinet adopted goals outlined in this paper, stressing a consensus among patriotic Lebanese citizens.

Salam emphasized that if Barrack is committed to his paper’s contents, Israel must cease its hostile operations and begin withdrawing from Lebanese territories, particularly from the five points mentioned. He specified that the withdrawal should start from three points, then proceed to two points. Salam demanded a cessation of hostilities and an Israeli withdrawal.

He further highlighted the need for enhanced political and diplomatic efforts to prevent Israeli drones from circling over Lebanese territory and to stop Israel’s ongoing hostile actions, ultimately leading to a complete withdrawal.

“This requires more communication with our Arab brothers, who are active players in the international arena. This also requires more communication and requests from our European friends to pressure Israel, and communication with America so that it can play its role in pressuring Israel,” Salam asserted.
