Beirut: Turkey announced on Saturday its intention to participate in international mine-clearing operations in the Strait of Hormuz, should a peace agreement be reached between the United States and Iran, according to Sky News Arabia.
According to National News Agency - Lebanon, Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan stated that his country could participate in these operations, as reported by Anadolu Agency. Speaking to reporters in London, Fidan explained that Turkey "would be open to participating in a coalition tasked with removing naval mines in the strait, once an agreement is reached," describing this work as a "humanitarian" effort.
At the same time, the Turkish minister emphasized that Ankara would not participate in any operations that could lead to its being labeled a party to a new conflict, stressing that his country would avoid any role that might be interpreted as taking sides in a renewed conflict.
