Baabda: President of the Republic, Joseph Aoun, on Monday held a series of diplomatic, political, and economic meetings at Baabda Palace focused on the Lebanese-Israeli negotiations, economic reforms, and regional developments.
According to National News Agency – Lebanon, US Ambassador to Lebanon Michel Issa discussed preparations for the next round of talks in Washington, praising the Lebanese negotiating team and reaffirming US support for the negotiation track adopted by Lebanon. He described recent military developments as a political message and said Washington remains committed to preventing a wider escalation.
Aoun also met French presidential envoy economic adviser Jacques de La Jugee and Ambassador Herv© Magro to review economic reforms, including banking restructuring, financial recovery legislation, and cooperation with the IMF. The president stressed that reforms remain a national priority and noted that he had signed a decree opening an extraordinary parliamentary session to accelerate the adoption of key economic and financial laws.
The president received Palestinian presidential representative Yasser Abbas, who reaffirmed Palestinian support for Lebanon and commitment to implementing agreements reached between the Lebanese and Palestinian leaderships, including the planned handover of Palestinian weapons in line with agreed mechanisms and Lebanon’s sovereignty.
Aoun also met Rania Al-Mashat, who reiterated the commitment of United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia to supporting Lebanon’s recovery, reform, and development efforts.
Separately, MP Firas Hamdan stressed the need for a capable and just state, while a medical delegation from American University of Beirut Medical Center briefed the president on Lebanon’s first successful microsurgical reconstruction of a fully functional finger joint, a procedure described as a pioneering achievement for Lebanon and the Arab region.
