Beirut: MPs Ibrahim Mneimneh and Melhem Khalaf on Wednesday said no meeting can legitimately claim to represent all of Beirut's MPs while excluding elected representatives of the capital.
According to National news agency - Lebanon, the two lawmakers stressed in a joint statement that Beirut "belongs to no one" and should not be managed through political selectivity or exclusion. They called for serious cooperation among all representatives of the city to address its mounting challenges rather than reproducing the same practices that contributed to the current situation.
Mneimneh and Khalaf affirmed their openness to any initiative that serves Beirut and its residents, while warning against the use of inclusive slogans to justify marginalization and exclusionary approaches.
They added that the current municipal experience demonstrates the consequences of political settlements, monopolization of decision-making and the sidelining of reformist voices, arguing that Beirut's residents deserve better than temporary solutions and ineffective governance.
