Baabda: President of the Republic, General Joseph Aoun, underscored the importance of judicial firmness in the fight against drugs, asserting that combating drug trafficking is a priority for Lebanon’s security forces. He highlighted the widespread impact of addiction on Lebanese society, affecting individuals and families on multiple levels.
According to National News Agency – Lebanon, President Aoun called for citizen cooperation with security forces to identify and apprehend drug dealers and traffickers. He emphasized the necessity for judicial authorities to deliver firm rulings to eradicate drug-related threats and safeguard the Lebanese population.
During a security meeting at Baabda Palace, attended by key security and judicial officials, President Aoun was informed about the ongoing efforts of the Judicial Police in combating drug trafficking and preventing smuggling. He lauded the officers for their recent achievements in thwarting drug operations.
In a separate meeting, President Aoun engaged with Major General Edgar Lowndes, Director General of State Security, discussing state security operations, particularly in monitoring public administrations and combating corruption.
Diplomatic discussions were held with United Nations Special Coordinator for Lebanon, Jeanine Hennis-Plasschaert, focusing on the work of international organizations in Lebanon and the role of UNIFIL in the south.
Politically, President Aoun met with MP Dr. Ahmad Rustom, who expressed support for the President’s initiatives aimed at reinforcing state unity and ensuring national security.
Additionally, President Aoun received a delegation from the Institute of Internal Auditors in Lebanon and the ‘No For Drugs’ Association, who briefed him on their respective efforts in promoting accountability and combating drug abuse within the country.
