Beirut: Public Works and Transport Minister, Fayez Rasamny, on Thursday received air navigation and communication equipment from Qatar's Ministry of Transport. This initiative reflects Doha's continued support for Lebanon, aimed at strengthening operational capabilities at Beirut-Rafic Hariri International Airport.
According to National News Agency - Lebanon, the handover took place during a press conference in the airport's departures hall, attended by influential figures including Qatari Ambassador Sheikh Saud bin Abdulrahman Al Thani and U.S. Embassy Charg© d'Affaires Keith Hennigan. The equipment grant underscores the strong bilateral relations between Qatar and Lebanon and Qatar's commitment to support Lebanon in various sectors.
The Qatari ambassador emphasized Qatar's dedication to standing by Lebanon during challenging times, particularly by assisting vital state institutions like Beirut airport. He expressed gratitude to Rasamny and the airport personnel for their commitment to the facility's operations.
Rasamny acknowledged the efforts of journalists and airport staff working under difficult conditions, notably air traffic controllers who managed operations during airstrikes to ensure civilian safety. He also praised Middle East Airlines for maintaining operations during the war, ensuring Lebanon's connectivity with the world.
Rasamny highlighted Qatar's consistent support, especially amidst Lebanon's economic difficulties and displacement crisis. He noted the importance of continuous coordination with the U.S. Embassy to protect vital infrastructure such as Beirut airport. Rasamny disclosed plans to open the eastern departure gate and other development projects at the airport, emphasizing the strategic importance of these facilities.
Captain Mohammad Aziz noted that the new equipment would enhance the air navigation department's operational efficiency, ensuring that airport activities continue smoothly despite Lebanon's ongoing challenges.
