Beirut: Prime Minister, Nawaf Salam, on Monday met with a parliamentary committee tasked with protecting civilian sites and documenting what lawmakers described as systematic destruction in Lebanon, in the presence of Deputy Prime Minister Tarek Mitri.
According to National News Agency - Lebanon, committee members said discussions focused on coordinating efforts with state institutions to document alleged Israeli violations and pursue legal action through international bodies. MPs noted that the committee's role complements the government-appointed national committee working on international humanitarian law files.
Lawmakers stated that the committee had already contacted the presidency, the Beirut Bar Association, the Lebanese Army, diplomatic missions, and international parliamentary bodies to support Lebanon's case internationally. They emphasized the importance of these efforts in building a strong case against the alleged violations.
The MPs warned against attempts to fuel internal divisions and sectarian tensions through Israeli actions and rhetoric. They stressed the need for national unity and coordinated institutional action to counter these challenges effectively.
The MPs revealed expected moves toward the UN Human Rights Office, including a possible fact-finding mission to Lebanon and discussions at the Human Rights Council in Geneva. This initiative aims to further bolster Lebanon's position on the international stage and seek justice through recognized international platforms.
