Beirut: Kataeb Party leader MP Sami Gemayel met Saturday with US Congressman Darrell Issa, with talks touching on developments in Lebanon and the region. The meeting was also attended by MPs Salim Sayegh and Nadim Gemayel, and the party’s head of foreign relations, Marwan Abdallah. Discussions also covered the ceasefire agreement, the Lebanese government’s decision to task the army with developing a plan to restrict weapons to legitimate forces, and the approval of the US paper.
According to National News Agency – Lebanon, attendees emphasized the need for working to restore the state’s free will and role, and opening up areas of cooperation with the international and Arab communities, as a fundamental and necessary step to support the economy and achieve progress as quickly as possible. Additionally, Gemayel underlined “the importance of the American role as a guarantor of any agreement that can be reached, including curbing Israeli aggression, in addition to the challenges facing Lebanon and the need for support from its friends to overcome them.”
