Beirut: President of the Republic, Joseph Aoun, on Monday said Lebanon has clearly informed the U.S. that a ceasefire is a necessary first step for any negotiations, stressing that this position was reiterated during ambassador-level meetings on April 14 and 23.
According to National News Agency - Lebanon, speaking before a delegation from Hasbaya and Arqoub, Aoun emphasized the official Lebanese stance rejects any claims of "concessions," and there is no cover for Israeli military operations. Aoun defended the decision to enter negotiations, questioning critics: "Was there national consensus when you chose war?"
Aoun further rejected wars fought for external interests, underlining that his goal is to end the state of war with Israel based on national constants. He concluded his statements by affirming, "I will not accept a humiliating agreement."
