Qassem Rejects Direct Negotiations, Sets Conditions for Any Resolution

Beirut: Hezbollah Secretary-General, Naim Qassem, on Monday issued a detailed statement outlining his position on the ongoing conflict, rejecting direct negotiations with Israel and setting conditions for any ceasefire and political resolution.

According to National News Agency - Lebanon, Qassem emphasized that the Israeli forces, backed by American interests, have consistently failed in their attempts to dismantle Hezbollah and its resistance efforts since the onset of the "Battle of Might" on September 23, 2024. He highlighted the significant battles, including the "Eaten Chaff" confrontation on March 2, 2026, which showcased the resilience and determination of Hezbollah fighters and the Lebanese people.

In his statement, Qassem criticized the Lebanese authorities for what he described as unnecessary concessions to Israel, which he believes only serve to weaken Lebanon without yielding any benefits. He asserted that the authorities' approach would neither benefit Lebanon nor themselves, as the demands of the Israeli-American alliance cannot be met by the current Lebanese leadership.

Qassem outlined five conditions that must be met for any resolution: cessation of aggression by land, sea, and air, withdrawal of Israeli forces from occupied territories, release of prisoners, return of residents to their homes, and reconstruction efforts. He insisted that the Lebanese government should halt direct negotiations with Israel and instead pursue indirect talks, aligning with national interests rather than foreign dictates.

The statement also expressed gratitude to the Islamic Republic of Iran for its role in facilitating a ceasefire during talks in Pakistan. Qassem condemned the Lebanese authorities' response to Israeli aggression, particularly during the events of "Black Wednesday," which resulted in significant civilian casualties. He criticized the United States for pressuring Lebanon into a ceasefire agreement that he claims only served Israeli interests.

Qassem concluded by reaffirming Hezbollah's commitment to resistance and defending Lebanon against Israeli aggression. He rejected any outcomes from direct negotiations with Israel, emphasizing that Hezbollah will continue its defensive efforts to protect Lebanon's sovereignty and honor the sacrifices of its people and martyrs.
