Beirut: Lebanese Interior Minister Ahmad Al-Hajjar announced that preparations for the upcoming parliamentary elections are underway in accordance with the current electoral law, emphasizing that the process will continue unless there is an intervention by parliament.
According to National News Agency - Lebanon, Hajjar, speaking before a Cabinet meeting, stated that the "election train has taken off" and is aligned with the existing legal framework. He highlighted the efforts of political leaders to reach a consensus and mentioned that the government has sought an advisory opinion from the Justice Ministry's Legislation and Consultations Commission to aid in this endeavor.
Hajjar further clarified that while the advisory opinion from the commission is non-binding, any decision to disregard it would necessitate an official justification in accordance with the Justice Ministry's internal regulations.
