Beirut: Kataeb Party leader MP Samy Gemayel on Wednesday welcomed statements by countries, UN bodies and international institutions supporting Parliament's decision to formally abolish the death penalty in Lebanon, describing the move as "a landmark step toward strengthening human rights and safeguarding human dignity and the right to life."

According to National News Agency - Lebanon, Gemayel thanked the international parties for welcoming the decision and expressed hope that they would continue supporting Lebanon in its reform process, efforts to consolidate sovereignty, and the building of a stronger state.
