Beirut: Prime Minister Nawaf Salam welcomed Parliament's passage of a law abolishing the death penalty, expressing hope that lawmakers would approve the general amnesty law on Wednesday.

According to National News Agency - Lebanon, Salam emphasized a shift towards restorative justice over retributive measures. He expressed his congratulations on the recent legislative milestone with a message on X, formerly known as Twitter.

Salam's message highlighted the significance of moving away from capital punishment, suggesting that such decisions are steps toward a more humane justice system. The Prime Minister's statement also indicated his anticipation for the passage of the general amnesty law, which is set to be discussed by lawmakers.
